Music Monday 4.

"racing down this lonely road of silence."

Humdrum Town - Theophilus London.

I have been addicted to this song for some time now. I think it's great. Especially when you listen to it at night. Somehow it just makes you think back of the day, and all the stuff that happened.
The rapping is great, he has really good lyrics. and the overall song is just very awesome.

Music Monday 3.

It's monday again people, so I've got a new song for you guys. and this one will make you feel like chilling at the beach.

You and Your Heart by Jack Johnson

what did i tell you? don't you feel like going surfing? haha.
the opening riff is just pure awesomeness. the moment you hear that riff you know that the whole song is going to be awesome.and that "Chill" vibe just continues throughout the entire song.

and the music video! who knew you can make a whole mv just of yourself surfing. I would say mr. Jack Johnson is probably the most relaxed musician I know.

this song is just perfect for times when you just want to sit back, relax, with an ice cold coke (or beer) in hand and just chill.

and maybe do a little bit of surfing.

Accidents Happen

So, most of you probably know/heard that i got into my first accident.
yeah, i'm fine. aletheia, nicole, shirin and jeremy, who were in my car at that time are fine too.
I thank God for keeping us safe and just protecting us in his arms.

so this is the story.

after an amazing service in G2, (good job annie, it was awesome! =D) me, shirin, aletheia, and nicole headed out to KK to pick up jeremy. we headed to becky's house, in damansara, for anton's birthday party. shirin said she had a GPS *shudder* so we decided to use to get to becky's house. aaandd that's when it all went bad.

the GPS led us to a pretty much the middle of nowhere. halfway through we realised that something must be wrong, because I don't remember having to drive through jungles to get to Damansara. So we switch the destination to The Curve (which is near becky's house). Shirin used that same coordinates before so it should work right? right?

well, it did in a way. it told me to keep driving straight, then turn right. and turn right again. oh and it said 76 km to curve. and that's when you know that you're really really really far away. by that time we were at Kuala Kubu Baru. which is hell far away from Damansara. so we followed the sign boards which said KUALA LUMPUR. so it should be the right way right?

well it was. except that it lead me though some forest. it was a two lane road. with absolutely no lights at all. so I reached a curve in the road. and then suddenly ZOMG! there's a lamp post in front of me! so I slammed on the brakes and turned my steering wheel left as much as I can.

picture is for illustration purposes only.

so basically, I went up that triangle thingy down on the road then up again on a divider. those low ones with grass, not the metal ones, or I would be dead. so, the road I was on apparently had two lanes, one to turn left and one to go straight. but the line was faded so I couldn't even see it. it was pitch black darkness up to that one light so I thought left was the only way to go. oh and i think i drifted before i hit the curb (which shows that my awesomeness is even apparent in dire situations).

thinking back about it, I realised that;
  • if i hadn't turned the wheel enough, I would have rammed straight into that lamp post and that probably wouldn't end well
  • if i had tuned the wheel too much, my car would have flipped when i hit the curb. which also wouldn't end well.
so basically, what i'm trying to say is that, somehow, I managed to get the angle just right. enough so that i won't crash into the lamp post, but not enough to flip. and THAT is only possible with God's help. thank you god.

I crashed in a place called Taman Tasik Teratai, in between the road from Batang Kali to Rawang. Yes, I have never heard of these places before either. shows how far away from civilization I was. also being in the middle of nowhere, it was kinda hard to get help. but I thank God for putting people in my life, who came all the way there to save me. Thank you guys =D.

I went to make a police report after that, and man, that took ages. I was probably in there for 3 hours. and after that extremely boring wait, I got out with a RM200 fine. only reached home at 4am after getting my car to the workshop and all that. I crashed at 9-ish btw.

so yeah, that's basically it.

lessons I learnt;
  1. do not blindly follow your GPS in Malaysia.
  2. do not sign anything when you get out of the car. (had to pay RM550 to transfer the car. sigh.)
  3. do not boast about being uncrashable (because it will bite you back, hard.)
  4. when lost, do not hesitate to ask for help, and not assume you have everything under control.
  5. do wear your seatbelt all the time, because accidents can happen anywhere, anytime.

so once again, i'm fine guys. i only got a tiny scratch. everyone else is fine. thanks for caring and being concerned.

pictures of my car is here

i don't have any pictures of the crash site yet, but i'll post it up when i get them.

that's it guys, peace out.

i thank god for his hand of protection over me, keeping me from harm and taking care of me when i need him the most. i thank god for giving me people who ran to my side the moment i needed help. i thank god for keeping me alive. amen.

Music Monday 2.

It's monday again! so it's time for another song.

WHO KNOWS, WHO CARES by LOCAL NATIVES.

Wow, where do I start? I'm in love with this song.
the haunting vocals with beautiful harmonies, the strings in the build-up, the part where the drum suddenly goes hyper, the awesome bridge, the ending. this song is just beautiful.

what's it about? I have no idea.
probably about living your life the way you want it.
but really, who knows and who cares right?

just listen and enjoy the song.

Music Monday 1.

Hey sup' guys?
this will be my first MUSIC MONDAY post.
what's MUSIC MONDAY you ask?
well, from this week onwards, I'll post a song on my blog every monday.

and this week it's RUNAWAY by KANYE WEST
so Kanye, I'm really happy for you, but you have one of the best videos of all time.

okay not really. but it's is a really nice song with a really nice music video.

I'm really addicted to this song.
from the opening piano notes, right to his rapping. I think it's a brilliant song.
and the ballerinas are graceful and really magnificent just to watch.
one thing though, they just kinda appear out of no where. what's up with that Kanye?

the music video is actually from his short film, also called Runaway.
it's about 30 mins long, and I'd say it's a masterpiece (somewhat).

somehow, I don't think watching the movie will make the music video any more understandable though.
I'm not kidding, even in the movie ballerinas just run into the room from no where.
It's still awesome though.

When the power runs out, we'll just hum

hey guys, I was kinda bored today , I mean it's not like I got an exam to study for right?
so I made a new video. Radiohead's My Iron Lung is the song I covered this time. I've been addicted (again) to this song recently so since I had some free time this afternoon, I made the video.

oh and my dad called me from downstairs halfway through the video, but i'm too lazy to redo it.
so my dad's voice gets a cameo in this one.

Animal Mechanical

so, I made another cover, but this time with some friends.
it's Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, a really nice song.
so I introduce to you, ANIMAL MECHANICAL

which consists of -

  • Samuel Chew (me! =D)
  • Sean Law
  • Daniel Gazi

so after a few hours of practicing, here's our video! =D

we really did try our best. haha.

peace out!

Saturday, September 25, 2010

I won't see you tonight so I can keep from going insane.

another cover of mine. this time it's Free Loop, by Daniel Powter. it's a really nice song. I just wish I could get someone to play the piano solo for me. Oh yeah, and I messed up the chords at the end. oops? =D

on another note, I really wanna go over to Jon's place for some band hero. so ajak me over quick! this time I won't be late =D

USA Nights.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

you know how most movies/tv shows always make the US look so nice and awesome? well, I'm actually missing Malayia now. sure US is nice and all, but there's nothing like home right?
I'm missing the people back home too. It seems like I'm missing out on so much with you guys by being so very far away.

I'm blogging at 1230 midnight at the hotel lobby. there isn't anything much to do at night when you're on holiday with your parents. I can't exactly sneak out to the pub for a drink of something right? also, the legal drinking age in the US is 21 and I'd much rather not get arrested tonight.
on a side note, radio stations in US really play good stuff.

Oh, and can you guys start coming online in the afternoons so that I actually have people to talk to?
for your info, US is 15 hours behind.
and to help you people back in Malaysia, that means you minus 3 hours, then change that time from am to pm or vice versa. only it's the day before. still with me?

so, since I come online at night, which is afternoons back home, please come online and talk to me?
please? because having to wait one whole day for your reply is just too long =/

can't wait to get back to see all of you. miss you people
but that doesn't mean I'm not going to enjoy the rest of my time here =P

sam out.

Just Keep Me Where The Light Is

No, I'm not colour blind, I know the world is black and white.
But, I know a girl, she puts the colour inside of my world.
She's got me buzzing just like, neon, neon.
and all these emotions keep holding me from giving my life to a rainbow like you
But this morning, there's a calm I can't explain
Cause when you're dreaming with a broken heart, waking up is the hardest part
My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room
Gravity wants to bring me down
so I ask myself, am I living it right?
cause i'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there.
it won't all go the way it should but I know the heart of life is good
so just keep me where the light is.

and I felt love, again.

My cover of Manchester Orchestra's I Can Feel A Hot One.
I had to do the whole thing multiple times because I kept messing up the lyrics towards the end of the song.
Hope you guys like it  =D

Concerts and more concerts

Hey people,
so if you didn't already know, MTV World Stage, Orianthi and Slash were kind enough to grace us with awesome concerts right here in KL
What's even better is that I had tickets for all 3 of these awesome events.

First up, MTV World Stage.

got a text from Nicole saying that she has tickets the day before. THANK YOU NICOLE! =D arrived late because I went to G2 first. missed out on Bunkface. decided to meet up with the sarawakians for a short while to celebrate Julie's birthday. missed Wondergirls. finally went to the actually concert and waited for an hour in the drizzle for Tokio Hotel. they were actually quite good. the singer's a little gay though, but who am I to judge? and knowing only 2 of their songs, it felt like an eternity waiting for them to finish their set. waited another hour for Katy Perry. she was good. and i'm not even a fan. best part? probably Peacock. and i'm sure everyone else will agree.

Summary - late + drizzle + waiting + not knowing most of the songs + tired legs = Kinda Awesome

Orianthi

Gazi had tickets because of his aunt. if you were in Sunway University on tuesday, you will find him trying desperately to sell them to just about everyone. I didn't go though. it was held in KL city itself, was too tired/lazy to drive up there on a weekday. and I had to save my energy for the next day.

The next day : Slash

bought the tickets myself. it costs me RM180. was kinda broke after that. King Yang and Kai Xiang went earlier to line up.decided to stay in college to hang out after classes. went late. to my horror, the gates were closed. I later found out that Amy Search was playing at that time. they blocked of the gates to prevent "too many" people from going inside to make sure Amy Search didn't outshine the main act. waited for 45 minutes just to get in. finally got in. couldn't get to Kai Xiang and King Yang since they were in the front. stood alone and waited 20 minutes for Slash. Slash performed, with Miles Kennedy of course. THEY WERE AWESOME! didn't matter if I was alone or not. if I had to pick the best performances during that concert it would be - nightrain, civil war, slither, starlight, SWEET CHILD O' MINE! (yes, they played THAT song, and it was awesome) and the encore - PARADISE CITY ( yes, they played THIS song too and it too was awesome).

summary - Slash + Miles Kennedy + rock 'n roll + headbanging + going nuts + awesome rock songs + SWEET CHILD O' MINE + PARADISE CITY = AWESOME!

let me just say this, the 2 hours I spent in SLASH was better than the 5 hours I spent in MTV WORLD STAGE.

so yeah, it was an awesome week.
but now, back to normal life.
AS mock exams are coming soon. I gotta start studying (I know what you're thinking, " pfffft samuel, study? not gonna happen")

"Keep on Rockin' in the Free World" - Neil Young.

Sam's Guide:Chuck Norris

So who exactly is Chuck Norris?

Chuck Norris (Born:Carlos Ray Norris) is an American Martial Artist and Actor and probably the most awesome American guy who ever lived. Hence, his idolation by Americans and the internet (which has been scientifically proven to be mostly American)

He is also the world's most powerful pokemon.

However, they had to cut him out of the pokemon series because he would make every other pokemon seem like a bunch of yellow mice blue turtles red lizards green leafy dimosaurs oddly coloured animals.

and he regularly teams up with japanese anime girls

So How Awesome is Chuck Norris actually?

  • he's the only person to ever achieve a score of 301 in bowling.
  • he's the only person ever to beat a brick wall in a game of tennis
  • when he crosses the road, cars have to look left and right.
  • when he does push-ups, he doesn't actually lift himself up, the world gets pushed down
  • when he falls in water, he doesn't get wet, water gets Chuck Norris.
  • he once ate an entire bottle of sleeping pills, they made him blink.
  • he played russian roulette with a fully loaded gun. and won.
  • he was supposed to be cast as the Terminator, but they decided that they didn't want to make a documentary, so they casted Arnold Schwarzenegger instead.
  • he can win a game of monopoly without owning any property
  • there is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures he allows to live
  • he invented cancer because he was tired of killing people
  • when the boogeyman goes to sleep, he checks to see if Chuck Norris is hiding in his closet.
  • he can pull a push door, and push a pull door.
  • he can never have a heart attack, because his heart isn't foolish enough to attack him.
  • he sets ants on fire using a magnifying glass. at night.
  • he can divide by zero
  • in the fine print of the last page of The Guinness Book of Records, it states that all records are actually held by Chuck Norris, and the people listed in the book are simply the closest anyone have ever gotten.

Ways to Survive a Chuck Norris Attack
none.

if you can see him, he can see you. if you can't see him, you're probably already dead.

Chuck Norris' Weaknesses
  • Bruce Lee (the only person on Earth who is more awesome than Chuck Norris. video evidence here)
  • tigers lions bears eagles t-rex pterodactyl dragons snakes guns rockets fire explosions bombs children borat aliens kryptonite

score one for the asians.

Oranje!

Oh no, Holland lost. Oranje lost. My team lost. It's a sad sad day for Holland supporters.

But, I have to admit Spain played well. Especially Iniesta, he really deserved that goal.

and so just like that, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is over.

which means no more ZZZZZzzzZZZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzZZZZZZzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZzzzZZZZZzzzzzZZ

a handy guide on how to use a vuvuzela

apparently, Kanye loves vuvuzelas too.

Who needs guitars?

so that's how the Horn of Helm Hammerhand sounds like

the reason why Moses lost the World Cup

and a very nice compilation of some of the best goals scored.

I'm disappointed that the dude who made this video didn't include any of Diego Forlan's goals though.

for those who missed the finals, here you are

also, a goal that makes us asians proud

a beautiful freekick by Japan's Keisuke Honda.
*Cristiano Ronaldo eat your heart out*

On another note, I realised that football players have really awesome names (or some of them at least)
So I've decided that when I have kids, this is what I'm gonna name them.

Kid no.1: Capdevila
Kid no.2: Huntelaar
Kid no.3: Van Bronckhorst
Kid no.4: Bob

why Bob? to maintain the balance of coolness. and also because I always wanted a kid name Bob.

I'm kidding.

*also, be a good boy and comment in the cbox, there's free cookies *

La Celeste

Uruguay, possibly the best team this world cup.
don't believe me? lets check the FIFA rankings.

Spain - 2
Netherlands - 4
Germany - 6
Uruguay - 16

can you tell which is the odd one out?

if any of you watched the Uruguay - Germany match, you can't argue that Uruguay played on par with Germany, a team thats 10 ranks higher than them.

they deserved that 3rd place spot as much as the Germans did.

but of course, the only reason Uruguay managed to go as far as they did is because of this guy.

Diego Forlan.

who is, in my opinion the best player of the tournament.
he singlehandedly took Uruguay to the the semis.
with a little help from Suarez of course.

and have you seen his goals?

you have to admit. this dude is awesome.
in my opinion, Diego Forlan is the best player in the tournament.
He deserves the Golden Ball more than anyone.

so for bringing your team to the semis, against all odds.
scaring the s*** outta me during the Netherlands match (yes, I am a dutch fan and I actually thought that we might lose thanks to him)
scoring amazing goals
almost equalizing in the 93rd min against Germany with a really really awesome free kick (that unfortunately missed the top left corner and hit the post)
and just being plain awesome

I salute you Mr. Diego Forlan
both you, and your team

Uruguay - the biggest overachievers this tournament.
Diego Forlan - the best player this tournament.

*yes, i'm ignoring that handball from Suarez, sue me*
**edit: "Suarez r teh best keeper of the tournament. Fact." - King Yang**

After a month of football fever, the last game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup is here.
it's going to be interesting, because both sides have never took home the trophy before.
But we all know that Holland will win it.

Go Oranje!

**edit: looks like I was right, Forlan won the Golden Ball, so I wasn't the only one who thought he was the best player in the tournament**

A New Leaf

So, if you known me long enough you would know that I'm a really really lazy dude. especially when it come to studies.

But that's gonna change.

I've decided to not be a lazy @$$ and start studying.
yes, I know I said that before SPM.
It didn't work out then so why should it work now?
I'll tell you why.

Because I'm actually serious this time.

Yes I'm serious.

seriously serious.

as serious as I can be.
(which someone told me isn't really that serious but what do they know right?)

In fact, I'm so serious, My nickname is now Serious Sam.

and no, I wasn't serious about that part.
I don't want to be called Serious Sam.

but yes, I'm gonna start studying, do well in uni, and be successful in life.
Maybe even be rich, have a huge house and drive a Porshe Cayman S *please let this part be true*

4 A*

that'll be my A-Levels Results (A* is like an A+, just so you know)

Watch me.

Heyy people! i'm back! (kinda)
